Albert Combs' Letters

These are transcriptions of letters written by William Albert Combs to Daisy Davona Fisher Combs when they were courting in 1908. The letters have been transcribed with the original spelling and punctuation. Daisy was living in Pueblo, Colorado and working as a cook and Albert was living in Checotah with the children of his first marriage, Mae and Edith. Blank spots indicate portions of the letter where I could not decipher Alberts handwriting and/or spelling.

May 16, 1908



Page 1:

Miss Daisy Fisher

I write you as I promised. I got back home one more time everything looks good to me. The flowers in bloom and the birds singing, its good old summer time down here. I wish you was here to enjoy the merits of the good old spring time with me. I think I could show you a good time if you was only here. I hope you wikll make your mind up sooner than Oct.

Daisy I do wish you was here. I love you so good but if you cant come before then Ill be contented the best I can. Diasy excuse me for being so impatient when I think ofyou its a golden thought to me. Daisy I ll.................remainder of Page 2 is missing...



Page 3:

Daisy you dont no how hard it was fo rme to leave you that morning I left Pueblo. Daisy write soon. I could write more but Ill wait till I here from you there. Nothing ever chances my mind. Daisy be a good girl and remember your farmer. Ill write no more this time hoping to hear from you soon.

Miss Daisy Fisher

My dearest ______________ to me this leaves me unhappy but I hope this will find you well and happy. Daisy I remember some fine years past and gone and i have regretted not one time but one hundred times and I though your __________me we _______let the past be the past and be as one for ever Daisy.

about our happiness_____________________ no mine I can say this if we dont marry it will be your fault not mine. You have my heart with you all time if you only knew it daisy. Will you excuse me for _____________________ your coming _________than you poromist when I think if you and that all the time you ______________to be with you.


Letter From William Albert Combs to Daisy Fisher
June 11, 1908



Page 1:

Miss Daisy love, though I would write you a letter as I havent got any answer from the one I write 9 days ago. I thought maybe you didnt get my letter or you mite of answered it and it got misplaced so I thought best to write. I no if you had of gotten my letter you would of answered it. I have that much confidence of you and will have tell you ________different. Daisy I love you. I dont see if you loved me as you say you do how you could _______ I dont think you would.

So wont write mucnh this time I cant hink of much to write about, the only thing is how I love you and hope for the timnes to come when we will be together. God noes our harts if you should be________me it owuld almost kill me to think that, and I hant going to think it tell I no of course times tell all things I will quite for this time hoping to hear from you soon.

Page 1:

Miss Daisy I received your letter this morning and was glad to here from you. It was good news to me. Daisy I love you I an glad you are mine but I will be much happier when I no you are mind if you was here with me you no I wouldnt have anything to dread. I didnt think you would go back on your promises. I remember one time we was going from Walnut Shade to your house and you said if you didnt get me you wouldnt never marry. I see you kept your pormises a long time.
